Humans are a prosocial species, meaning that we’ve evolved to find joy and meaning in actions that benefit other beings and society. We feel more connected and happier when we are compassionate and kind. In Loving-Kindness meditation, we tap into this facet of our biology and spirit. In this simple yet profound practice, we wish ourselves and others happiness, health, and ease. Metta meditation helps practitioners build a sense of connectivity with self and others; strengthens the areas of the brain related to empathy and compassion; and augments positive feelings like joy, hope, and contentment.
